Glade Cottage is a great place for families and is ideally located in the West Kootenay region, halfway between Nelson and Castlegar, near the banks of the Kootenay River. The cottage is nestled on the western slopes of the Selkirk Mountains and must be accessed via a small ferry ride, giving it the feel of “island living”.
Glade Cottage affords the peacefulness of a small acreage community, while having great central access to the various centres and activities which abound in the West Kootenay region. The Cottage is set back on 7 private acres, with miles of trails at the end of the driveway. The activities are endless in this area. There is a beach within a short walk of the cottage and a boat launch only 1 km away. You will find that the Kootenay River is very quiet compared to Kootenay Lake. On the river you can enjoy boating, swimming, and fishing. Summer provides hiking, mountain biking, and paddling. In the winter months enjoy, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing right from your doorstep. Also in winter, you will find cross country skiing at Black Jack Ski Area and groomed trails at the
Blueberry-Paulson Ski Area .
Downhill ski at Red Mountain and Whitewater , all within 1 hour of the cottage.
Glade Cottage makes the perfect home base allowing you to explore all that The West Kootenay region of British Columbia has to offer. The town of Nelson is 20 minutes away with its’ many shops, restaurants and heritage buildings. Nelson also boasts a gorgeous lakeside park with a wonderful beach, shaded playground, and even a vintage streetcar to take the kids for a ride. Driving 15 mins. south from Glade Cottage will take you to Castlegar where you may explore beaches and parks on the Arrow Lake and Columbia River. The hillside town of Rossland is a must see and is only 45 minutes away.
Glade Cottage is a 7 hour drive from southwest Calgary, and is best accessed via #3 south through the Crowsnest Pass. Vancouver is an 8 hour drive via highway 3. Glade Cottage has all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. The large master bedroom has a queen size bed as well as a sitting area. The second bedroom has a double bed. Both bedrooms are located on the second floor adjacent to the bathroom which is equipped with a bathtub/shower.
The main floor has a pull-out couch which is also a double bed. The large kitchen is equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. All your small appliances, dishes, utensils, and towels are provided at the cottage as well as some staple food items. Enjoy cable TV and internet. The large deck has lots of opportunities for sitting and dining, and there is also a barbeque. The cottage has a cute little woodstove for heat as well as some back-up baseboard heaters.
